Whole bean vs ground... is there really a difference when it comes to freshness? Grab a coffee, sit down and let’s chat!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The biggest difference between whole bean and ground coffee is flavor and freshness. The reason? We asked our master roaster to break it down for us! Here's the lowdown. You're taking a single object (a coffee bean) with a limited surface exposed to the air, and smashing it into thousands of tiny pieces, each with its own surface area. This greatly increases the rate of oxidation and causes the coffee to go stale very quickly. Hence, losing flavor and body quicker.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Didn't quite understand all that coffee talk? Let's simplify.
Have you ever sliced an apple? If you have, you've most likely notice that within minutes that freshly cut apple starts turning brown. Oxygen present in the air reacts with the enzymes on the flesh of the apple and bam, the browning begins.
All of Well-Bean's coffee bags have a degassing valve to keep oxygen out and extend the freshness of your coffee, but for peak flavor and freshness of your coffee, try grinding coffee beans right before you brew. Trust us, you’ll be amazed!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It takes just a few extra seconds of grinding coffee, but totally worth it. The other cool thing about whole beans is that YOU get to control the grind size and that makes a whole lot of difference when it comes to how your coffee tastes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can read all about the right coffee grind size for your preferred coffee brewing method here.
We get it tho! Life doesn’t always make time for whole beans and grinding. That’s where small-batch roasters come in! By taking advantage of one of our Well-Bean Coffee Subscriptions, you can guarantee you coffee isn’t sitting in some back room or on a shelf for weeks before it makes it’s way to you.
When it's time for your 100% Arabica coffee beans to be sent to you, we roast and grind the beans right before they are shipped to you. That way flavor and freshness are packed in tight when they arrive to your front door!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
